The Path of the Horse

What is it about Horse that so compels and enchants humans? It seems we either love
them or fear them. If you feel drawn to horses, there's a reason.
Horses are enwoven through humanity's story. They are friends and allies, as well
as motivators and challengers. They touch us in our deepest core, mirroring the light
and shadow side of us, true and pure reflectors.
Why are they so provocative to our souls? What is it about them that moves us mentally,
emotionally, physically and spiritually like no other life form? What is this ancient
pact between us and how does it work?
All around and in us we can feel this divine humanity remembering Itself, this beautiful
Light anchoring, teaching, deepening, drawing us inward to our Finest Being. The
Seed has sprouted and it is the time of a huge unfurling shift for humanity. We can
feel this. And Horse is one of the animals offering to help humankind in a very personal
way.
Horses help humans on many levels. One element of horse instinct that serves us so
intimately is their structure of survival. The herd is everything. Every minute of
the day a herd of horses is checking in with each other -- who is the lead mare that
they will follow without thinking? And if there is a stallion present, is he properly
guarding them? This is discovered through constant simulations -- play, really. In
the wild, it becomes serious. Through a series and phases of body motions they discover
each other's strengths and weaknesses, and a hierarchy unfolds. It is known to all
and is also constantly challenged to ensure survival of the fittest.
Physically, they are like a 1,000-pound rabbit, a prey animal with inborn instincts
of survival by flight, then fight. They watch everything all the time. Their life
depends on it. Around every rock is an ambush, and in everything that moves lies
a potential mountain lion. That heightened awareness is what they bring to the table
of our relationship. They read us like a book. Every motion, every flick of a finger,
every look and nuance is a story about you. Your feelings, your mental state, your
physical ability, your inner strength and resolve -- all of it, spread out like print
on a page. It is their language. The body and its telltale revealing of the inner
state. You are not a secret to them! They are masters at revealing who you are and
what signals you're sending out.
What does this mean to us? It means they will act as true friends running the gamut
with us: challenging, acquiescing, pushing, giving, testing, accepting, questioning.
In short, they irrevocably and completely cause us to become the leader we must be
if we wish to Dance with them. If we wish more than merely riding, we must refine
ourselves, nurture ourselves, know ourselves. Above all, we must cultivate an acute
awareness on every level. Even to the birthing of a thought.
When you walk into a round pen or arena or are handed the lead rope of a horse, you
will encounter the truth. About yourself. It's what they do, if we only know how
to look and listen and learn.
You will hit every emotion you know and then some. You will fly and you will fall.
You will learn to say sorry with every cell of your body. And you will feel exhilaration
unspeakable, perhaps over the subtlest thing. You will become an artist of your own
soul.
Horses cause us to gain the knightly virtues they require of a mutual partnership:
compassion, discipline of body and soul, passion, focus, clarity of mind and body
movement, fairness, justice, and oh what they do for your heart...their beauty, poise,
grace, freedom, strength, and fealty fill us with hope and wonder.
Those called to the path of the Horse learn the deepest meaning of words usually
held too loosely within the human mind: surrender, trust and gratitude. This relationship
is like no other to them, only Horse has the key. Nothing else and no one else quite
fulfills this role of spiritual mentor, servant, soul friend and agent of change.
The words "natural horsemanship," "animal communication" and
"horse therapy" are becoming common in our vocabulary -- a beautiful rejoicing
and rejoining is occurring between our species. If you feel this call in your heart...answer.
The path of the horse awaits you. You are meant to be part of this revolution and
evolution!
