Shortcut to Nirvana
Are you aching to leave the cinema with a smile on your face and hope for peace and
tolerance in your heart? Shortcut to Nirvana, an exhilarating, insightful, uplifting
and often hilarious journey of discovery to the biggest event in history -- the Kumbh
Mela, is exactly that kind of movie.
Short cut to Nirvana opens March 25 in Minneapolis at the Landmark Lagoon.
Held every 12 years where the holy Ganges and Yamuna rivers meet, the ancient Kumbh
Mela festival is the largest gathering of people in history -- more than 70 million
pilgrims and many of India's most revered spiritual leaders, including the Dalai
Lama. More than a simple account of the 2001 event, this film is a sensory experience
of an ancient, grand occasion, a swirl of color and motion, song and cacophony, the
sacred and the surreal -- spiritual India as anyone would hope to find it, offering
a message of harmony, unity and peace for all humanity.
The film is self-distributed and the two directors, Nick Day and Maurizio Benazzo,
have been able to successfully navigate the theatrical distribution process to bring
the movie in all major cities in the U.S.
"Everywhere we go audiences love the movie" Day said. "They understand
it's a movie created from the heart and it resonates with them."
Benazzo notes: "You will feel as if you were there, at the Mela, surrounded
by millions of people in complete bliss, receiving blessings from some of the highest
Spiritual Being on this planet. At the end of each interview, we asked each Guru
to bless the film and the audience that will watch it...It definitely shows...
"...There is an audience out there that feels the need for a new form of entertainment,
one with less violence, more hope and joy, more positive messages. If you want our
small planet to become a better place, this is a movie for you!"
One of the directors will be present at selected screenings on the opening weekend
to speak with the audience and answer questions after the shows.
