Global music artist
Joran intoxicates with The You
InTune | by Anthony J.W. Benson
New Releases
The You and the Now, by Jorane [www.sixdegreerecords.com]
Uniquely fresh and intoxicating, French-Canadian singer-cellist Jorane's American
debut CD The You and the Now is a stunning exploration of multiple sounds and moods.
Hauntingly beautiful and intriguingly unorthodox in its musical approach, The You
and the Now is a pleasingly rare find amidst the current crop of musical choices.
Equally skilled with the bow as she is with her sensuous voice, Jorane has successfully
fashioned an undeniably special recording that stands far apart from the crowd of
other aspiring artists. Global, Alternative rock, folk, classical and ambient music
styles are creatively represented here in swirling kaleidoscope of atmospheric sound.
Fans of Kate Bush, Sinead O'Connor, Bjork and Loreena McKennitt take note, Jorane
is a young, exciting and talented artist to behold.
Slow Jams, by Jason Peterson De Laire [www.jpdelaire.com]
Jason Peterson De Laire (nephew of Twin Cities music greats Ricky, Patty and Paul
Peterson), has crafted an enjoyable and beautiful CD of original and co-penned songs
(vocal and instumentals) that reflect the CD's title perfectly, Slow Jams. Peterson
De Laire, a talented musician is his own right, who, when not recording his own material,
is often found playing saxophone and keyboards on the road with artists such as Donny
Osmond and Michael Bolton. Gifted with an expressive and soulful voice, Peterson
De Laire visits the Jazzy/R&B musical territory of Teddy Pendergrass, James Ingram
and Alexander O'Neal as well as other late-night favorite artists. Songs such as
"Life's Too Short," "Can't Live Without You," "All My Love"
and others perfectly set the relaxing mood for mellowing out alone or with a loved
one
All This Time, by Sylvia Tosun [www.sylviatosun.com]
Gifted New York-based vocalist and songwriter Sylvia Toson is a remarkable talent.
Her new CD, All This Time, blazes forth with stunning sonic urgency. Possessing a
powerfully beautiful and soaring voice, Toson's artfully sculptured sound melds enticing
global influences with a surging undercurrent of ethereal rock'n'roll. Evocative
of artists such as Annie Lennox, Loreena McKennitt, October Project and Bjork, Toson
is a unique new voice of considerable merit. Superbly produced and thoughtfully crafted,
in an almost operatic scope, All This Time pulses with hypnotic rhythms and glorious
melodies, all of which provide an enchanting and highly rewarding musical experience
not too be missed.
Rediscovered gem
New
Groove Blues, by
Steve
Yeager [www.steveyeager.com]
When was the last
time you listened to a recording featuring the vibes? Not recently? Perhaps never?
Well, with Minnesota-based Jazz Artist Steve Yeager's CD, New Groove Blues, that
should all change. Yeager is a talented musician and vibes player whose style is
melodic, accessible and supremely musical. New Groove Blues is a cool "old school"
style jazz recording, enhanced by a superbly crafted "new school" sonic
hipness. The perfect CD to play late at night or early Sunday Mornings, New Groove
Blues is filled with great tunes such as "Old Devil Moon," originals including
Lisa and the title track "New Groove Blues," as well as a a beautiful version
of the Burt Bacharach classic "The Look of Love." Complemented by brilliant
musicians including Tony Monaco (Hammond B-3), Clay Moore (Guitar) and Phil Hey (drums),
Yeager has successfully created a soul-jazz recording that has just the right vibe.
