The Stars for the November
Elections & Long-Range Trends
Part 1: George W. Bush
by Curtis Burns
First of a three-part series
This is the first part of a series looking at the astrology of our times, focusing
on the astrology of the two current contenders for the office of U.S. President --
George W. Bush and John F. Kerry -- who and what they are and which one will win;
and then taking a long-range look ahead at the operative cycles ahead in the next
few decades and what they mean to society and the world. I have comprehensively looked
at the major cycles of all the candidates and the world in general and published
them on my website, www.StarWorldNews.com. You can get a briefer look at the pivotal
persons and issues through this series.
I will begin by looking at George Bush through the lens of Vedic Astrology (also
called Jyotish). Vedic astrology is an ancient form of astrology that comes from
India; it's probably the actual precursor of today's Western astrology. Vedic astrology
is particularly powerful in character delineation and prediction of the future; it
has a very relevant focus on material matters. Because it uses a different coordinate
system than Western astrology, some of the positions of the planets in the Vedic
chart will fall in different signs from what would have been written in other articles.
The President has a very strong emphasis in the sign of Cancer with the Ascendant
(the significator of the self) and four planets in that sign; therefore feelings
and sentiments are important to him, rather than being analytically precise in his
thoughts and words. This is also shows with Bush's Moon, which is conjunct the planet
Jupiter in Virgo falling in his chart's third house of communications. Jupiter's
expansive tendency doesn't fit well with Virgo's exactitude, and his well-known linguistic
gaffs are the result.
Cancers have an intuitive understanding of the motives, sentiments and emotions of
people at large; they also have a feel for the ebb and flow of the various commodities
necessary to life; consequently, they can be very successful in business. George
W. Bush certainly made his millions in the business world before he moved into politics.
He may have gotten help from his already wealthy family and connections, but he did
make some successful business decisions.
In various ways, GWB's chart shows him as one who can enjoy the fruits of his labors.
He has a strong eleventh house (the house of material gains), and his ascendant ruler,
the Moon, is conjunct the very fortunate Jupiter.
The president also has a very powerful navamsha chart (the chart of spiritual destiny),
almost assuring him of success and high status. One could say that regardless of
how smart he is, or how hard he has worked, the President always seems to come out
on top. Thirty days AWOL from the military? No problem! He's got friends in high
places to take care of that. He didn't really win the 2000 election? No problem!
He's got the Supreme Court to give him the election anyway.
With fiery and warlike Aries on the cusp of his tenth house of success and reputation,
and a strong Mars (very similar in nature to Aries) in proud Leo, it would be easy
to call GWB a warrior president who likes to bask in the glory of battle. Further,
his Mars falls in the second house of speech; a lot of aggressive rhetoric could
come out of him, including phrases like "Bring 'em on!"
Bush's dasamsha chart, which shows his ultimate reputation in life, has a very strong
and aggressive sixth house. It is the sixth house that gives us strength to win our
victories, whether they be on the battlefield or in the work world.
Much has been said about GWB and how his religious convictions apparently have a
great bearing on his foreign policy. There is also talk that he is a member of a
powerful cabal -- or inner circle -- that believes it is imperative that the U.S.
morally and economically assume control over the Middle East. This seemingly religious-inspired
policy also includes great favoritism to Israel, since supposedly it is the "Promised
Land" and it will be the place where Good ultimately triumphs over evil.
Looking at the President's ninth house of religious philosophy, one can see that
it is ruled by Jupiter, a very spiritual planet. It would seem indeed that GWB has
genuine religious convictions; whether or not those convictions are balanced is another
story.
Bush's Jupiter as the ruler of the ninth house of spirituality
is ill-dignified, because it is in the sign of its detriment,
Virgo. This would indicate that his operative philosophies could
tend to fall to extremes or fanaticism. Secondly, having a very
strong Cancer emphasis in his chart can give GWB a clear inclination
to be visionary or having very "fanciful" perceptions.
Bush's arudha pada, a Vedic term for the material image of his ascendant and a very
powerful personal point in anyone's chart, falls in Mars-ruled Scorpio. In many different
ways, there are strong martian (military) themes in his astrology. You could almost
call him a duke instead of a president.
George Bush is right in the middle of a powerful cycle of potential delusion and
deception, for transiting Neptune is moving through the sign Capricorn and therefore
in full aspect to his Cancer ascendant. The potential is very high for intrigue,
tragic miscalculations and very weird things happening in and around him.
One also can't dismiss Bush's Sun in Gemini falling in the twelfth house of intrigue,
deception and loss. While the twelfth house's positive potential of being a compassionate
giver always remains, in the vast majority of cases a twelfth house Sun in a chart
often contributes to escapist, secretive and self-undermining behavior. This house
is emphasized in the chart of many politicians, confirming indeed that in modern
politics there is always a "behind-the-scenes" influence at work that pushes
ulterior agendas, and that many politicians have personal "liabilities."
So, will George Bush be re-elected? Let's look at both his Vedic and Western astrology
predictive indicators.
Transiting Uranus will be moving into a strong aspect to Bush's Mars during the next
few years. Mars is Bush's tenth house ruler, that which governs his fame, success
and ultimate achievements in life. The action of Uranus on Bush's Mars will have
the effect of pushing him further to aggressively take command over things. The combination
of Mars and Uranus lining up in anyone's astrology would seem to be very apropos
to someone remaining in office and continuing on with his rule-bending, war-making
propensities.
Western-style predictive indicators only go so far. If you want to look at the larger
cycles of one's life, you need to look at the person's Vedic dasas, or planetary
periods that continuously connect life chapters, literally unfolding one's destiny
as it is locked within the chart. Each "chapter" -- or period -- has sub-periods
within it that give layers of meaning and detail to life's unfolding events and experiences;
each period has a specific planetary or sign ruler that defines it.
GWB's current dasa is of Saturn, a planet which is very prominently placed in his
chart in the Ascendant. This would indicate a period of highly developmental and
powerful experiences in his life. This period started in 1986, and it was within
this timeframe that he moved from the corporate into the political world, leading
up to his election as President. Bush's current sub-period Jupiter commenced roughly
with the start of the Iraq war and will run through the November elections. As mentioned
earlier, Jupiter is also very powerful in Bush's chart, ruling his ninth house of
good fortune and his sixth house of victory in battles.
For the upcoming election, GWB will be in the same powerful astrology influence that
he was in when he fought and "won" the war in Iraq. Will he therefore "win"
the next election?
In August 2005, Bush moves into a whole new major cycle ruled by Mercury, which will
last for 17 years. This upcoming period has interesting portents as it activates
Bush's twelfth house of hidden forces; if re-elected he could become more of a so-called
puppet and still remain bombastic (literally?) because Mercury is very strongly placed
in his chart in the Ascendant. So he could continue to be a significant player on
the world stage.
In summary, George W. Bush is very strongly Cancer-influenced in his astrology. He
can be very inspired by ideas, whether they are truth or not, and muddling in his
verbal expressions. I have shown that he has incredible good-luck configurations
in his chart; he has the potential astrology to be a "fanatic" and he has
very strong militaristic themes in his chart. Bush has a lot of wind in his sales
astrologically for the next year or so, and he could be hard to beat.
If I am scaring a lot of registered Democrats out there, let me tell you that I have
not yet written about the chart and cycles of the other contender for U.S. President,
John F. Kerry. John Kerry has a very powerful chart himself, and he has some extremely
interesting things in his astrology to reckon with. If you want to find out about
the astrology of John Kerry's victory or defeat, read my article to be published
here in the October edition.
