FEATURED RESOURCES ON MEDITATION
Compassionate Ocean Dharma Center, 3206 Holmes Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55408, (612)
825-7658, www.oceandharma.org,
e-mail meditate@oceandharma.org
The Compassionate Ocean
Dharma Center is dedicated to the central practice of awakening. The Center has two
program wings. The Center for Mindful Living offers eight-week courses in mindfulness
following the Jon Kabat-Zinn model, presenting mindfulness as a universal practice
not dependent on any particular religious tradition. Beginning and continuing classes
are offered four times a year in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and other locations. The
Compassionate Ocean Sangha explores Buddhist practice and teaching from a zen perspective,
following the practice forms of Thich Nhat Hanh and Dainin Katagiri Roshi. Ongoing
gathering times are Friday mornings at 9:30 and Sunday mornings at 9:00 in Minneapolis.
Morning meditation also takes place Wednesday mornings at 6:30. One-day and weekend
retreats are offered most months, and courses on Buddhist teachings are offered throughout
the year. Please call to receive our current program information.
Driftwood: A Relaxing Experience, (952) 931-9540
You're on vacation. Relaxing. Slowing down. Taking it all in as you stroll along
the beach. Memories such as these were the impetus behind the new consignment store,
"Driftwood," in the Lund's Country Village shopping center. Store owner
Kathryn Miller, an avid bargain hunter and consignment shopper herself, set about
creating a store and a shopping experience in which both she, and her customers and
consignors, would feel at peace. The result is this quiet oasis located at the corner
of Highway 7 and Hopkins Crossroads, where you are invited to browse for your favorite
brand of "comfort clothing" or simply relax and read a book while listening
to Native American flute music and enjoying cookies and tea. The clothing is a wonderful
mix of unique, quality fabrics. Brands such as J.Jill, Chico's, Flax, Willow and
others fill the racks, and hundreds of shoes and boots are waiting to be worn. You
are invited to enjoy the oasis and return home after a relaxing experience at Driftwood.
Shalom.
House of Prayer, P.O. Box 5888, Collegeville, MN 56321, (320) 363-3293
www.ehouseofprayer.org
Our mission is assisting
in the ongoing work of discerning God's voice, both within ourselves and in the world,
providing guidance in the search for wisdom, teaching forms of contemplative prayer
and offering training in the inner work of the spiritual life. Our Scriptures tell us, humanity
has been created in "God's image." The ongoing work of the Christian is
a spiritual revolution that involves detaching from the false illusions of "self"
to take hold of the new True Self created in God's likeness. Recognizing that the
wisdom of recreation through spiritual transformation is often lost to our cultures
and societies, we believe it is the vocation of the House
of Prayer to support individuals and groups as they seek to be "formed into
Christ."
The Episcopal
House of Prayer is on
five acres of wooded land provided by St. John's Abbey, a Roman Catholic Benedictine
monastery in Collegeville, 76 miles north and west of the Twin Cities via I-94 (Exit
156 "St. John's University") and 90 minutes from the Minneapolis-St. Paul
airport.

The Center for Inner Awakening, Alan L Pritz, www.CSpiritAwake.com, 612-721-4100
The Center for Inner Awakening is a meditation-based organization
that uses the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda (author of Autobiography
of a Yogi) as a model for anyone interested in spiritual growth.
It assists those on all spiritual paths and is not limited to
a select group. The Center strives to promote one goal of Yogananda:
"To disseminate among the nations a knowledge of definite
scientific techniques for attaining direct personal experience
of God." Classes include gentle, spiritually focused hatha
yoga, devotional chanting, meditation, plus lectures on philosophy
and/or practical applications of spirituality
in daily life. Ongoing meditations/workshops provide the support
needed for inner growth and help to foster companionable spiritual
community. (Those drawn to Yogananda as their spiritual master
are encouraged to pursue that relationship through established
organizations that can legitimately assist them. Others who
appreciate his teachings yet wish to incorporate them into their
own faith walk will be able to do so.)

FEATURED AUGUST RESOURCES ON OTHER TOPICS
Osteopathy
Joan Dawson, D.O., Southdale Osteopathic Clinic, (952) 806-9000
Are you one of the many week-end athletes who rarely finds the time to exercise during
the workweek, but stay busy with tennis, jogging, biking, or other rigorous activity
on the week-end? Each year thousands of people are injured doing these projects.
Muscles and joints are asked to perform in ways that they have not been trained or
prepared for. The result can be acute muscle or joint pain.
Did you know that "toughing it out" can actually do more damage to your
body? Studies show that acute pain can cause changes in the nervous system that may
result in an increased sensitivity to pain and take longer to heal.
One of the best ways to heal an injury is to get Osteopathic treatment that provides
for realignment of the joint, relaxation of the muscle, increased circulation and
lymphatic flow, and balancing of the body. Osteopathic physicians can also provide
pain medication when it's appropriate.
Dr. Dawson is available to treat men, women and children with Osteopathic Medicine.
She provides pain relief and restoration of well-being to fit the specific concerns
of the patient, including myofascial release, muscle energy, neuromuscular and cranial-sacral
treatment. She is also a certified OB/Gyn and provides routine gynecologic services.

Arts and Ceremonies for the 21st Century Spirit
InnerVoice, Rev Katherine Engel, M.A., (612) 419-4958, www.spiritmuse.org, e-mail
SpiritMuse@mn.rr.com
My primary gift is synthesis. My education and years of experience enable me to meld
seemingly disparate elements into a unified whole. All I do is meant to promote wisdom,
healing and appreciation of the interconnectedness of life.
As an ordained interfaith minister, I blend cultures and spiritual paths by writing
and celebrating original ceremonies to observe life events (house blessings, weddings/commitments,
memorials/funerals, namings/baptisms). I can also meet with you for spiritual counseling,
or I'd be delighted to speak at your event. Spiritual counseling links to my experience
as a vocalist and educator. I work with students on developing connection to Spirit
through voice and technique, so they may function with confidence and skill, whatever
their Path or role in society.
InnerVoice also creates cabaret-concert programmes, an anthology of sorts from many
periods and styles, including song, story, poetry, and drama. Each programme is united
by a theme, such as "The Art of Gratitude," "Nature's Peace"
and "Home." Look for us in September when we perform "Compassionate
Heart."
