Ancient Gnosis has become "hip-gnosis"

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Join British philosopher Timothy Freke, author of international best-sellers The Jesus Mysteries and Jesus and the Lost Goddess, when he lectures in Kansas City at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, at Unity Temple on the Plaza, 707 W. 47th St., Kansas City, Mo.

The event is sponsored by Friends of Jung Board Member Greg Rieke.

At the end of their book, Jesus and the Lost Goddess, authors Peter Gandy and Timothy Freke suggested that Gnosticism be completely updated for the 21st century. This is exactly what they have done, and Timothy Freke will share those thoughts with you during his lecture.

Freke will describe how "experiential philosophy" is used to reach beyond words to experience Gnosis. Gnosis is appreciating the miracle of this moment and communing with the Mystery of Life. It is a journey through wisdom to love. Love of others. Love of ourselves. Love of this moment. Love of life. Love of everything.

nosis is more than an intellectual understanding of life. It is a passion for living. Gnosis is not something ancient and esoteric, experienced by other people who are wiser or more spiritual than you. Gnosis is a natural state of awakeness available to you right now. The word Gnosis or enlightenment (the Eastern equivalent of Gnosis) can seem grand and exotic that we dismiss the possibility of experiencing this state for ourselves
. From this standpoint, Gnosis can be thought of,instead, as enlivenment. Enlivenment is possible. Your life can be a celebration of the miracle of existence. All that is required of you is a clear-mind, an open-heart, and a willingness to wake up!

Freke can't promise to enliven you. Enlivenment is like falling in love. You can't force it and you can't prevent it. But he will invite you on a blind date with some beautiful ideas and you never know -- it might be the beginning of something big!

He is an internationally respected authority and scholar on world mysticism who lectures in the United States, United Kingdom and Europe. He is the author of more than 20 books on many different spiritual traditions. His books are used by many universities in the United States. He is a charismatic communicator who talks about complex issues in simple and accessible ways. He enjoys sharing his passion for the mysteries of life and death. He lives with his wife and two young children in Glastonbury, England.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door ($12 for students and seniors at least age 65). For information, contact Greg Rieke at (913) 681-2459. Mail checks for advance tickets to Greg at 12840 Bluejacket, Overland Park, KS 66213.
