Who are you?
by Wendy Garrett
As you think, so you are.
As you dream, so you become.
Who am I? We are born knowing, and yet, many have parlayed that question into a lifetime
quest. It is a search for an illusive truth when one cannot accept that the answer
comes from within. Is it really that simple? Yes...and no. You will find out who
you are when you shift your focus from searching to being...why write anything more?
Maybe, as one traveler to another, I can offer a suggestion.
The discovery lies in the process -- not the outcome. Once you have arrived, you
are done. It starts anew...the process of discovery renews itself over and over.
The farther you journey to discover who you are, the farther away you are from knowing.
The only answer is I am. And yet, to try and determine more, which is apparently
what many would like to do because "I am" is sometimes seen as an insufficient
answer, it is necessary to say that who I am is not a question that has a finite
answer. I am in the moment what I am. In the next moment, I am something else, and
yet, I am. "I am" changes with what I am reflecting at present.
On the surface, I am evolving and shifting. In essence form, I am timeless, but I
react infinitesimally and respond to those ever-shifting presentations as I become
more. The constant quest of who am I is like the proverbial cat chasing its tail.
Self-discovery comes in living life one step at a time. The cat who succeeds in chasing
his tail has nothing more than a mouth full of tail. Catching the tail does not tell
him who he is. It is just a part of the cat. The chasing activity is no more than
energy in focused pursuit of self. Self is not contained in the tail, nor is it contained
in the pursuit. And yet, both are represented as manifestations or expressions of
the cat. Who is the cat? The mystery remains.
The cat is the essence and the form and even that description is lacking. It is to
say I am what I am. And yet, I am more. Who am I? I will never know. And in that
knowing, I know. I am. To look at it from the big picture, understand you are as
Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. You are caught up in the journey of self-discovery while
at no time have you left home. It is your awareness that has shifted. The ability
to maintain contact with the conscious and subconscious levels of self are lacking
in training. When you develop the ability to redirect your awareness at will and
to know what level you are working on, you will know you are always home calling
the shots. You will benefit from that ability in learning to shift the focus of your
thoughts to change and re-direct events.
Now the bigger picture of "who am I?" Sometimes we are forced by destiny
to become something we scream with every fiber of being that we are not. Only then,
can justice be done. Life is not an exercise in perfection. It is anything but. And
therein lies the pursuit. We see in life the tiny pieces of the puzzle. With our
limited vision, it can often appear whole squares are left undone. But God/karma/fate
determines when and how the t's are crossed. It is balance and in the end all comes
together in perfect union regardless of our ability to see it. We live in the extreme.
Angels provide the balance. What we cannot see, they have done walking on ahead or
tidying up in the wake. When a savior is required, angels clear the path. The soul
prodded and guided. Providence prevails. When a life is ended, all answers are given.
All tests are passed. Masks are dropped and the innocent are again washed clean in
blinding light of truth. We are one. We who have done battle with ourselves will
go on to fight another day. Some differences are not meant to be resolved.
Some sins are not meant to be pardoned. They serve a purpose that those who would
not otherwise act will offer themselves up in protest. Those offerings forge the
mettle of the soul some have called the sword of God. In all, there is purpose. In
all, there is meaning. Faith is given to the wise who accept there are times when
answers are unnecessary nor do they provide resolution. They serve only to perpetuate
the question. The secret content in the smile of the enlightened: The best answers
are never said. Impossible to reveal, exposure requires an untruth. "I know."
Therein lies the cosmic joke. In knowing, one is stuck. One who knows nothing can
walk on. I am free when I know not who I am, rather, I accept with or without breath
I am what I am. I don't have to walk when I can fly.
Returning to the metaphor of the cat for purpose of definition, imagine that you
are the essence and energy contained in the moment in the manifestation of cat, and
while limited to cat experiences you are able to explore the world and the environment
through the benefit of dreams and energetic shifts of consciousness. You have a sense
of something more, but it is nothing you can grasp. That is the key. It is the ability
to shift your awareness to the level of you that is multidimensional that is Divine
Union. That is who you are. That is who we are. We are all that is and we are nothing.
The moment of union is bliss.
As with anything else, it comes and goes. We shift in and out. Multidimensional.
As you are multidimensional, so is all that you come into contact present on another
level. When you are able to tap into that and live it, you will have the full ability
to play without fear in the fields of the Lord. Good, bad, or indifferent. Then you
can truly enjoy the process and know you have arrived only to start over. Lucky cat!
So here am I.
I am all I know.
I know nothing.
And yet, I am.
I am more than what I know.
I am what I don't know.
And still, I am.
Know more. Know less. Know nothing.
Who am I? I know without knowing.
I am.
Who are you?
That is up to you.
