Angels, Crystal Children
& You
An interview with Doreen Virtue
by Tim Miejan
Reality for Dr. Doreen Virtue is bigger than the job, the house and a walk on a sunny
Southern California beach. Much bigger. She checks in regularly with spirit helpers
-- angels and guides -- and has come to expect that when she asks, they will not
only listen to her, but assist her in every way.
Her clairvoyant abilities were with her from childhood, but it was not until July
15, 1995, when her professional life in psychology (founder of WomanKind Psychiatric
Hospital in Nashville, former administrator of Woodside Women's Hospital in the Bay
area) was turned upside down. She had been ignoring guidance from her angels to become
a teacher of mind-spirit-body issues, and she ignored their warning that her car
would be stolen on that fateful July day. Two armed men, intent upon a carjacking,
physically accosted her. The inner voice spoke again, urging her to scream. She listened,
screamed, and her life was saved by passersby who sent her attackers running.
She has listened to her angels ever since. Twenty-two books later, she has not only
offered guidance to her fellow humankind, but she has received stories from people
from all walks of life, testifying to the phenomenal and often life-saving support
given by the spirit realm.
Doreen, the founder of Angel Therapy, will return to the Twin Cities this month,
joining three other noted psychics -- Sonia Choquette, John Holland and Gordon Smith
-- on stage in Minneapolis from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at the Minneapolis
Convention Center, as part of Mystical Connectionsª 2004: A Day of Intuition, Angels,
and Psychics, sponsored by Hay House. Call 1 (800) 654-5126 or visit www.mysticalconnections.org
for tickets and more information.
Doreen spoke with The EDGE by phone from her home in Southern California about this
experience and much more.
You're part of the Mystical Connection Tour with Hay House coming to the Twin
Cities. For those who haven't attended an event like that, how would you describe
it?
Doreen Virtue: We did this last year in other U.S. cities and also we did it
in Australia. When one psychic does an event, that person is limited by time and
energy in terms of how many readings that can be done for the audience. What the
audience likes about the Mystical Connections Tour is that there were constant readings
going on from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., because you've got four psychics taking part. That
increases the chance that you're going to get a reading.
The event is very reading oriented rather than lecture oriented. It's very experiential.
The energy in the room is amazing. We are calling on angels all day. John Holland,
who goes first, is a very good medium whose style is similar to John Edward's. He
talks about the difference between mediumship and psychic work, and that sets us
up for the day. Sonia Choquette has some real fun and an upbeat style. She involves
live music with her event. And, Gordon Smith has got to be the greatest medium I've
ever met.
I talked to him not long ago from Scotland.
Virtue: He is such a good person, too. He's one of these rare birds that combines
talent with groundedness. He doesn't have any drama going on. He doesn't compete
with other psychics. He's just such a great person. He deserves all the success.
I hope he becomes like this huge star. The guy is amazing. He's the real deal. He's
really humble.
So, each one of you speaks at a certain time and then you give readings the rest
of the time?
Virtue: Yes. We each talk for an hour and a half, John in the morning, followed
by Sonia and Gordon. I'll probably be the last speaker of the day. We each give a
little warm-up talk, but we launch right into readings for an hour and a half. We
weave in teachings, of course, but it's very oriented to getting psychic readings.
You've written so many books, from topics as far ranging as overeating to archangels
and ascended masters. What have you personally received as a result of this awesome
journey you've been on?
Virtue: Well, the first thing that comes to mind is meeting new friends in the
spirit world. Like many people who read The EDGE, I was raised in a Christian household
where you talked to Jesus, the Father and the Holy Spirit, and maybe angels. In writing
these books and doing this work, it has really broadened my scope as to how wonderful
the different divinities and deities are, from all the different faiths and religions
-- and how beautifully they all work together, unlike the human world where we fight
over religion and war and such. In the spirit world, it's just one big team. It's
really changed my life for the better.
How would you characterize the spirit realm, that it's so large and so populated
that we couldn't fathom how big it is?
Virtue: Beyond what I could say. To me, it's layers upon layers. I keep finding
new layers. And it just seems like all of it's so beautiful. Whatever we need, we
certainly find.
In the human experience, we don't have to do anything alone, whether it's finding
a way to drive some place you haven't been before to finding a soul mate to a good
love relationship or any kind of healing. Heaven never says "No." Your
guides might come up with completely different and creative solution than you had
thought of. I just know from all these experiences that every prayer is answered,
always.
Not always in the timing that we expect or the way that we expect.
Virtue: Right. The big lesson for me is to let go of how it's going to show up
and not hand Heaven a script and say, "I want you to do it this way." I
was doing a reading with a woman whose job was making her ill. She was a nurse working
in the geriatric department and she was sick a lot. I did an angel reading on her,
involving her guides, which included angels, ascended masters and relatives who had
passed. They clearly said that her heart was in working, still in nursing, but with
children and pediatrics and maternity wards, but she'd have to take a drop in salary.
This woman had foreknowledge of this when I relayed this reading message to her.
She said, "Oh, yeah, I know that, but I've been trying to save up enough money
so I could change to the maternity ward."
See, she was trying to tell Heaven how to make the switch, and the angels just got
on her case.
They said, "No, you have to take this leap of faith. You can't say, 'Well, when
I get enough money, then I will quit my job, move, or whatever.' " Sometimes
Heaven will come up with creative financing.
Right. I think a lot of us are in the position of where finances dictate our faith.
Virtue: And it should be the other way around. And that's when we hear the greatest
stories, when people take those leaps of faith.
How do you start each day so you're in a positive state of mind? Does it begin
with you intentions when you go to sleep each night?
Virtue: At night I do a lot of white light work. First I surround my family,
friends, and our house with white light, and then before I fall asleep, I surround
the entire planet with white light for protection. At night, a lot of my work is
protection work for everybody, but in the morning my husband and I share at least
three readings from spiritual books and then we do prayers together before we get
out of bed. We've been doing this since we've been together, which is four years
now. We just wouldn't leave the bedroom without doing this. It sets the whole day
on an optimistic, hopeful and faithful note. We clearly ask in our prayers for what
we want help with, everything from safety for the people who are driving over to
see us that day to protection and safety for our children and to protect them.
What advice do you have for people who may say their prayers, but they can't seem
to release the fear that blocks their prayers from being answered.
Virtue: Fear is the big issue, isn't it? Right now I'm involved in a pretty exciting
project. Are you familiar with A Course of Miracles?
Yes, I am.
Virtue: There was a copyright lawsuit and I was called as an expert witness in
that case, and because of it, I was given the original, unedited copy of A Course
of Miracles.
Oh, wow.
Virtue: And, it's like a thousand pages. It's the first typing with handwritten
notes.
Incredible!
Virtue: Typed in 1965. And, I have had it for five years and just this year,
it was like, OK, it's time to start reading it. So I've been reading it every day
-- and it's so different than the actual course. It's a conversation. A lot of it
includes very personal things that might be misinterpreted by someone who's not familiar
with psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
The point is, in answer to your question, that in the unedited Course, Jesus says
very clearly that we create fear with our thoughts and therefore it's up to us to
heal them. He says He can't help us with fear, because we created it and we believe
it and put a lot of stock into our creation.
He says our whole task as Miracle Workers -- He calls us Miracle Workers instead
of Light Workers --is to understand the power of thought. We tend to think our thoughts
aren't that powerful or we think it's arrogant to think we have powerful thoughts.
Actually, Jesus says, it's just a fear of the responsibility. If we really knew how
powerful our thoughts were -- and I totally agree with Him -- then we would know
that we have to be more vigilant with monitoring our thoughts. He says making yourself
afraid is very destructive and dangerous.
With any kind of fear, whether it's the fear of manifestation, the fear of success
or failure, we can ask for help. I work with an archangel named Jophiel, whose name
in Hebrew means "beauty of God." Jophiel's very good at helping us to beautify
our thoughts, but, once again, we have to make the choice to call upon the help and
then make the choice to listen.
Sometimes it feels good to feel sorry for yourself, and you think, "I want to
be in a funk." In those cases, nobody can help you -- physical or non-physical
being. We have to ultimately say, "You know what, I choose to be unafraid."
And in the unedited version of the Course, Jesus says, "You can't master fear.
It's impossible. All you can do is master love." The key is to be really honest
with yourself about what you're afraid of instead of stuffing it down out of unawareness.
Since the Harmonic Concordance on November 8, many of us have been doing major detoxing
-- physically, emotionally and mentally. I've been on a detox since then and immediately
released 30 pounds in doing so. It's amazing. I feel better. I feel so cleaned out.
The angels say that this is the year of us strengthening ourselves, that we're going
to move into a higher sense of self-esteem -- all of us. We're going to realize our
power and say we can do something. This is a big year of transformation, especially
for America, and we have opportunities to make changes in our government. The angels
want the Light Workers to be more outspoken in their daily lives, instead of giving
into fear by saying, "Oh, I'm so afraid I'll get killed like I did in my last
life when I spoke up."
You're noted for your work with the angelic realm, but I venture to guess that
a majority of the people still don't know their angels or communicate with them.
Are the angels still with them, nonetheless, and what are the angels doing for those
who don't intentionally connect with them?
Virtue: Those are great questions. Now, I'm speaking as a lifelong clairvoyant.
I've never seen anyone who didn't have angels. Even so-called evil people have angels.
Obviously, they don't listen to them. The same goes for people who are miserable
and unhappy.
I'm reminded of when I was in Florida a few years ago and I saw a man who appeared
to be homeless. He had tattered clothing and was unshaven. He was asleep in the middle
of the day in the park. It appeared to me that he had gotten drunk and then passed
out. I saw this man and I watched his angel, his main guardian angel, standing over
him saying, "Come on, get up, let's go, get up, get up, get up." And this
man had zero awareness of his angel, because of the chemicals, the alcohol.
The angels do try to help us, but many times they fall upon deaf ears. For all of
us who are doing spiritual teaching work, I think our collective mission is to help
people to get in touch with whatever you want to call it -- angels, intuition, gut
feelings. That's such a key to healing. I'm really passionate about getting people
to get in touch with their angels, but I'm not out to convert or convince anybody
about it. If someone wants to call it "gut feelings," that's fine. Just
trust it. Stop discounting your gut feelings and trust it.
How does someone know if their intention to communicate with an angel produces contact
or whether they're just imagining something?
Virtue: The big test, if it's just imagination or true Divine Guidance, is that true
Divine Guidance is repetitive. It lasts over time. So, if you're getting the message
to write a book, or open a healing center, or something along those lines, a second
characteristic is that the messages always talk about helping, either helping yourself
or someone else. They're always benevolent. Your imagination is what gives negative,
critical and abusive messages.
Even though it's true, in the ultimate sense, that we are one with each other, we're
one with the angels, and God, in this world we appear to be separated. The third
test is that communication from the Divine has the sense that someone else is talking
to you. If you hear messages in your mind, the sentences will start with "you,"
"you need to" or "we need to," whereas our ego messages start
with "I."
What I always tell people is that if you're getting a Divine message and you're just
not sure -- and it's asking you to make a major life change like a move or a change
in jobs -- be conservative and give it some time. Wait three weeks or four months.
If it's a real message, it will still be there. The only exception are those Divine
messages in which they ask you to take action immediately, like "go check on
the baby" or "change lanes right now," but those kind of emergency
messages are so loud and so clear. Usually, that's when you hear the angel's voice
outside your head. Most people do not ignore those messages. The rest of the messages
come very subtly, but they are repetitive, through feelings, thoughts, visions and
words.
It would be incredible if everybody on the planet would know personally that that
does happen.
Virtue: I always say that skeptics are people who haven't had noticeable angel
experiences yet. You know, once you have an angel experience, you go from hoping
something will happen to knowing this is real. And, it makes life more fun and happier,
more harmonious. A lot of people argue with me, saying, "Well, aren't we supposed
to struggle? Isn't this God testing us?" And I always say, "You know what?
The angels say that you can grow spiritually through pain, but they say you can grow
a lot faster through peace -- that you inspire more people through peace than when
you're in pain.
There are some people whose belief in the Bible has them lump angels with demons
and Satan.
Virtue: That's Old Testament stuff.
How do you respond to people who suggest that?
Virtue: I'm not a crusader, but what I do is I say that there are a lot of parts
of the Torah and the Old Testament that talk about fear, including a wrathful and
vengeful God. And then when you move to the New Testament, God is loving and omnipotent
and the angels also follow suit.
Angels in the Old Testament are actually very attractive. They've got lots of eyes,
and ears and wings. And then you go into the New Testament and they're the modern
type of angels, a beautiful being with the eagle wings. What I tell people is to
put this in a historical context. It's not about religion or who's right or who's
wrong. The Bible gives many accounts of people talking with angels, including Luke
talking about the Annunciation and Gabriel giving the good news to Mary and Elizabeth.
I always tell people, no matter what, just to experiment with this. Try asking an
angel for help and see what happens, then make up your own mind. Ask for a parking
place. It's not blasphemous. The angels want to help you with whatever brings you
peace, no matter how big or small. Like A Course in Miracles says, there's no order
or difficulty in miracles; one is not larger or smaller than the other. To angels,
helping you find a parking place is no different than healing cancer.
One of your most recent books is about the Crystal Children. Readers have been
asking me about more details about them and I've referred them to your website and
information like that. Who are the Crystal Children and what do they have to offer
our world?
Virtue: The main thing they offer is hope. I have never had more hope for the
human race and the survival of the planet than being involved with that book, The
Crystal Children. These new people, I think, represent what humans used to be. I
think we're returning to the old days.
In what way?
Virtue: First of all that they are entirely forgiving. If crystal children are
hit by other children, they don't hit back. They show us that our instincts aren't
as aggressive as we expected. They also are largely telepathic. The big characteristic
for Crystal Children is that they don't talk until much later in life -- and they're
being misdiagnosed as autistic, which is a shame. Some of these children are actually
having surgery to put metal grommets in their ears. The mainstream media proclaims
an "epidemic of autism," which cracks me up, because it's the same time
period where we're seeing this influx of these new Crystal Children.
Now, autism does exist, but autism is very different than what we're experiencing
with Crystal Children. Autistic people are not affectionate, because they are in
their own world, whereas these Crystal Children are the most affectionate people
we've had in a long time. Their parents go on and on about how these kids are cuddly
almost to the point of being clingy. That they give gifts to strangers in need. They
are very drawn to senior citizens and people who are crying. There are many miracle
stories about the Crystal Children doing hands-on healing or energy healing before
anyone has taught them how to do it. They have a natural affinity for crystals which,
again, harkens back to the ancient wisdom of Atlantis. Atlantis had some gentle people,
my new research has found. I used to think of Atlanteans as being the warmongers,
but there was some really beautiful crystal healing going on there.
Parents of Crystal Children tell me they don't teach them. The kids pick up a crystal
and say, "I can heal with this" and proceed to do so. They love nature.
They must be outdoors every day or they get cranky. And they are the precursor to
the next generation called the Rainbow Children, who are just now just starting to
come in.
Tell me about them.
Virtue: We had the Baby Boomer generation, my generation, who I call the Light
Workers. They were followed by the Indigo Children, who are the outspoken warriors
who are now young adults and older teenagers. They're the ones we're going to very
soon see doing peace protests and marches ala the 1960s. Because they're warriors,
they need that to get rid of these old, toxic energies.
And then the Crystal Children are the generation after that. The largest population
of Crystal Children right now are from infants to age 12. You know Crystal people
because they are absolutely so peaceful, so saint-like, so loving and gorgeous. It's
not because of physical proportions that they're gorgeous, but light seems to come
out of their pores. You look at these people and you go, "Oh, my God!"
And, even people who don't like babies, when they see a Crystal Child, it just draws
them.
Now, some of these children came in earlier. I've met some Crystals in their 20s.
Those Crystals, who are having children, are having the Rainbow Children. And the
Rainbow Children are coming in with no karma whatsoever. It's their first time here
and they are choosing completely functional, loving parents. They don't need to choose
crazy families. They don't need to undo any karma with any people. So, they're just
now starting to come into loving, functional families.
I've only met a few Rainbow Children. I spent time with one down in Mexico last month
and I don't know that much about that generation. But what we do know is that each
generation is getting more peaceful and more telepathic, more psychic, more natural.
So, it's exciting to me.
I really, really believe that the Light Workers' mission is to edge out the old energy
of competition and greed and usher in the new energy of manifestation and cooperation.
That's what these new kids are going to share in this amazing new world. Our appetites
have shifted, because you probably have noticed that a lot of Crystal Children are
self-selected vegetarians. Many of them don't even eat food. They just choose organic
juices, even in families where they eat a lot of red meat. If this continues, we're
going to see a shift in the environment, because we're going to get away from the
old farming with pesticides and animals. We're going to go back to the garden. I
have just real hope that we're going to Utopia.
