South African AIDS orphans benefit
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Neale Donald Walsch, well-known author of the Conversations With
God books, will speak at a benefit event at Unity Temple on the Plaza on March 20.
Greg Tamblyn, local musician, will be the host for the evening, sharing his delightful
humor and original songs. The Children's Dance Theater of City in Motion will dance
a South African number.
A silent auction and reception opens at 5 p.m. Funds raised by this event will go
to the Novalis Orphan Care Project to help build children's villages for some of
the hundreds of thousands of children who have been orphaned or abandoned as a result
of the AIDS pandemic.
The Light Center in Baldwin, Kan., has been selected to train volunteers to go to
South Africa to assist in the orphan care project. Two leaders from The Light Center
who have traveled to South Africa this year will share photos to share at the benefit
event.
The Unity center in Johannesburg will create a children's home in Soweto, and Unity
centers throughout the greater Kansas City area are joining together to support this
exciting project.
To become involved as a volunteer to help with the benefit, or for ticket information,

New Wellness Center opens
GLADSTONE, Mo. --The Midwest Institute of Bodywork and Somatic Therapy has announced
the opening of the Wellness Center -- a clinic where anyone may receive the healing
benefits of structural bodywork, provided by advanced students who are studying to
become Certified Body Somatic Practitioners. The Center is located at 7711 N. Oak
in Gladstone.
Structural bodywork is the manipulation of the body's deep connective tissue that
surrounds every muscle. This type of bodywork eliminates pain, increases energy,
flexibility and mobility, and heals the body. According to Carmelita Davis-Beets,
founder and president of the Midwest Institute of Bodywork and Somatic Therapy, the
Wellness Center is something the school has been working toward for some time.
"Many schools of higher education that teach alternative healing techniques
create this type of clinic, where the services are offered at a reduced rate,"
Davis-Beets said. "The students providing the structural body work have gone
through hundreds of hours of training and are approaching graduation, and they will
be supervised by instructors as they work on patients at the Wellness Center."
The fee for bodywork at the Wellness Center is $25 per hour for those under age 55,
and $10 per hour for those ages 55 and older. The Center will see patients by appointment
only, and morning, afternoon, and evening appointments are available. For more information
or to schedule an appointment, call the Wellness Center at (816) 436-9696.
The Midwest Institute of Bodywork and Somatic Therapy is located at 5518 N. Antioch
Road in Kansas City. The school is certified by the Missouri Coordinating Board for
Higher Education. For more information about the school, visit www.body-somatics.com
