I WOULD RATHER

I would rather be an eagle
Than a dove
I would rather be a deserted road
Than an oft-traveled highway
I would rather try and fail
Than not try at all
I would rather live for today
Than yesterday or tomorrow
I would rather be burnt by the sun
Than pale from the darkness
I would rather be a hero who died
Than a coward who lived
I would rather know a true friend briefly
Than an acquaintance for a lifetime
I would rather join the fight
Than turn my back
I would rather keep company with myself
Than be alone in a crowd
I would rather lead the way
Than follow silently behind
I would rather march to my own drum
Than the beat of the band
I would rather ride the storm's waves
Than sit safely in port
I would rather starve in the wild
Than grow content in the village
I would rather be opposed
Than never take a stand
I would rather savor a sunset
Than forever be blind
I would rather travel
Than stay home
I would rather be alive
I would rather be loved
I would rather be free
