Telling the Truth about Our
Experience
Everyday Wisdom: Spiritual Guidance for Daily Life
by Paul Ferrini
Truth, like freedom, always carries a price. But the price of not telling the truth
is much higher. Not telling the truth may give us temporary security, but it is the
security of a prison. We get a bed to lie on and food to eat, but we never get to
see what lies beyond the prison walls. Each one of us has a unique journey. Even
if we travel a well-worn path, we must go at our own pace and have our own experiences.
We cannot do this if we let others rush us or hold us back. When we are feeling uncomfortable
with the direction or the pace, we need to speak up. Our journey will be authentic
and true only if we have the courage to be honest about whom we are.
Giving Your Gift
Do not make the mistake of thinking that you have no gift to give. Everyone has a
gift. Your gift brings joy to yourself and to others. It helps you step forward and
express yourself. It breaks down the barriers of separation, helps you connect with
others, and allows other people to know whom you are.
The Dance of Energy
When two people approach each other weak and needy, wanting attention or approval,
both will be disappointed. This is because neither person is in a position to give.
To give, we must be feeling good about ourselves. Then our goodness naturally extends
to others. When others ask us to dance, our dance with ourselves intensifies. We
need to take time to love and nurture ourselves or we won't have the strength to
support others when they need our help
