Becoming Free
by Bryan Bertsch
"The Goal of the Tao is to achieve freedom. No one can rule us inwardly and
control our soul or spirit. No one. Once we realize this, we become free."
These words were spoken to me by Master Mantak Chia two years ago and everyday they
make more sense to me.
True freedom requires unplugging from energy sources that are not authentic to you.
Realize that you are free to connect to that which resonates with you on every level
of your being. There are steps that you can take to learn how to tap into your freedom.
Internal harmony and balance
The first step to attaining freedom is to find internal harmony. We are all energetic
beings made up of a physical body, emotions and feelings, a mind and spirit. Becoming
sensitive to this energy is essential. In Taoist meditation, we practice the Inner
Smile. In this meditation, we smile to our major organs, which each carry a range
of emotions. For instance, we start by smiling to the heart and spiraling healing
energy into the heart. We imagine the heart as a red rose and as we shine our smiling
energy down the rose blossoms. Out of the rose comes a red mist of love, joy and
happiness.
While we spiral this love, joy and happiness, we look for any hatred, impatience
or arrogance and smile at it. We wrap the red mist of love, joy and happiness around
the gray cloudy impatience, arrogance and hatred and transform the energy. Any excess
negative energy is released into the Earth to be recycled. We then continue through
our major organs, using colors, emotions and protective animals to transform negative
stress into positive vitality. You begin to understand your emotions and feelings.
Not only do you get in touch with the energy that you are carrying, but you let go
of toxins that build up in your physical body from this harmful energy.
In this process, you are sorting your negative energy, or garbage, into separate
piles. This piece is essential, because by sorting out your hatred or impatience
(heart), anger (liver), sadness or depression (lungs), fear (kidneys), and worries/anxiety
(spleen) you can find remedies for each. Otherwise, this negative energy blends into
a big blob that can seem overpowering to solve! This is a way to break down your
'problems' and come up with solutions. So we sort our trash, transform the trash
and finally recycle any that is left over!
Once the energy has been transformed, you take the love and joy of the heart, the
fairness and openness of the spleen, the courage of the lungs, the calmness and gentleness
of the kidneys and the kindness and generosity of the liver and blend it together
to create compassion. This compassion resonates with your higher energies and allows
you to connect to yourself on a much deeper level. With your energy at this high
frequency you can tune into higher dimensions allowing you the freedom and expansiveness
to do whatever you wish!
Separate yourself from others
Once you have taken the time to sort through your issues, you now have made a stronger
connection with who you are. Also, you can decide what problems are actually yours,
and which ones you may be carrying for someone else. A lot of people who do not know
what to do with their negative energy pass it along to others. If they carry too
much anger, then they direct that anger at others. Too much fear is passed on as
well. Once you are clear about your energy, you then can recognize when this is happening
and choose to not take that energy on.
The idea that we are all One is a truth that many understand. The paradox of this
is that in order for our collective to heal each person needs to heal individually.
Consider your being its own Universe with you as God. When you see how your actions
(propelled by emotions and feelings!) dictate the fate of your body, you then connect
to your responsibility. Create clear boundaries for yourself. Define where you stop
and the rest of the world begins. Find out what belief and emotions are yours, and
let go of the rest. Find your truth. Choose not to be influenced by others' negativity
and take care of your energy. Do not take other people's issues as yours. Align with
your higher self and follow your internal guidance.
You only have control over yourself, but you have complete control over every aspect
of yourself! So what are you going to choose today?
Aligning with the Cosmos
All the energy that we need is being provided in bountiful ways. The trick is learning
how to access it. We take in energy through the food that we eat, the air that we
breathe, the sun that soaks into our skin, the water we drink and finally by the
life force energy, or chi, that is all around us. Part of the Taoist meditations
is plugging into this life force energy and using your energy centers to magnetize
it. You can use this chi for nourishment, healing, or an energy boost!
As you learn to receive this energy on your own, you no longer need to rely on others
to access it. You are self-empowered and self-sufficient. For example, you don't
need to be in a relationship so that you are loved, because you know how to tap into
that love yourself. Instead you choose be in a relationship to share love and exchange
this wonderful energy! You become free.
Fine-tuning your energy in this transcendental way paves the way for changes in your
practical life. Solutions to your everyday problems become simplified. Relationships
with friends and coworkers shift to that of mutual cooperation and you notice coincidences
and synchronicities that aid you. Your higher self is able to direct you in the most
efficient way!
As we each learn how to access this cosmic energy on our own, then we connect to
our truths and begin to live our lives by our own agenda. As you fill yourself with
this energy, you can unplug from other people's wants and desires and be free!
