Transformation
during turbulent times
A Body, Mind, and Spirit Conference Preview: An Interview with
Jacquelyn Small
by
Tim Miejan
She's an author, minister, licensed psychotherapist, speaker, teacher, consultant,
addiction counselor and professional trainer. But Jacquelyn Small perhaps is best
described as a down-to-earth guide to human beings.
For 30 years she has written, taught and spoke on soul-based psychology and personal
transformation, and her work is not over. She continues to find new ways to explain
unchanging principles that guide us from the shadows into the light. She will present
a talk entitled "Transformation During Turbulent Times" and a workshop,
"Healing the Human Shadow," during the Body, Mind & Spirit Conference
October 11-12 at the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie. |
Seek and
ye shall find the beauty,
happiness in your life
From the Editor | by Tim Miejan
I must admit that, after a
long, hard day full of challenges and missed opportunities and headaches and, well,
you get the picture, I have said to myself, and to others, "When I am done with
this lifetime, I am going to rest."
The rest I have in mind, somewhere in the background of this current reality, usually
involves not having much responsibility for a long period of time. Perhaps it would
be like coming back as an oak tree that is planted in some wealthy neighborhood and
is watered and pruned and cared for and ends up living 200 or 1,000 years. It's a
lifetime of living, breathing and soaking up the sun day after day for a very long
time. |

HAPPINESS | OUR FEATURED TOPIC in SEPTEMBER
The
Discipline of Happiness
by
Kristin Volk Funk
Walking to my car recently one morning after a workout, I tuned into a discipline
I have been practicing for several years: I tuned into myself, specifically my thoughts.
To my surprise and dismay, I discovered that my mind was cluttered with negative
thoughts.
The
Medicine Ways of our Ancestors:
A Dreamtime Vision for Happiness
In Faith | by Kara Hawkins
"It is a starry night
and the air is electric. The stars are moving. I hear the electricity in the air
and see little bursts of light popping around me. I am wondering if this is a good
night to fly. The winds are blowing so strongly, and I recall that all my lucid flying
dreams have been in calmer weather. Out on the horizon the gathering clouds plummet
to earth, moving as a tornado. Dark and churning a path this way and that, they are
heading my way. 'OK, that decides it, no flying,' and I hold Tara, a little girl
who is shaking in my arms, as folks around us run for cover."
There
is No Secret
by
Jill Swanson
The secret to a "happy" life is that there is no secret. To be "happy"
is to be at peace. To be at peace is to surrender ideas, concepts, philosophies and
conditioning about what we think happiness is. To be happy, is to be accepting of
what is -- to not be disputing or arguing with reality, to realize our sole/Soul
purpose is to evolve and grow and to live in balance and peace and freedom in the
Now moment, and that to live in the Now moment without attachment to things for purposes
of identity is to live in balance and peace and freedom which is joyful, and indeed,
our natural state of Beingness.
Happiness
by Amy Schmelzer
Have you ever sat in the dark and listened to your heart beat, listening to the thump-thump,
thump-thump as it grows loud inside your ears...feeling the rhythm resonating throughout
your whole body...feeling the presence of every wall of every vein and every artery
in each moment after precious moment? And have you, in one of those moments, realized
the miracle that you are, breathing in air, feeding your system, human, and fully
alive? |
Happiness
is...
by
Wendy Garrett
To accept the premise of trying
to find inner happiness in a world of chaos, one must assume and attach oneself to
the concept that the world is indeed all chaos. It is one-sided. Happiness is knowing
the world is just right. There is no perfection and that is, in itself, perfection...chaos
is relative.
Playfulness,
Humor & Self-Esteem
by
Michael Horemans & Gwendolyn Keith
When was the last time you played, had so much fun you forgot about all your problems
and experienced how beautiful and easy life can be? Play is such a natural attribute
of our soul. It's our soul's desire to be playful. Look at children. They play and
laugh the whole day. Have you ever had a child knock on your door saying, "I
am tired of playing. Can I please come in and clean your bathroom?"
Happiness
is an Inside Job
by
Gayle Klauser
Do you wake up each morning with a smile on your face? Or do you dread getting out
of bed and facing another day? Like many people, you may be caught in a web of negative
thought patterns that keeps you from appreciating the joy life can bring.
Genuine
Happiness
In Our Spirit of
Unity |
by Kate Peppler
Sitting here at a restaurant,
I am enjoying people watching. One couple in their mid-30s did not say a word to
each other throughout their entire meal, that is, until the enormous ice cream Sunday
for two arrived. Then, they finally smiled and began to talk. Another table of 12
was a gathering of relatives. All were thrilled about the new infant's arrival to
the family. The teen girls and women were literally standing in line to hold the
adorable infant in pink lace. At that table, there was lots of conversation and laughter.
People at both tables showed moments of happiness. Were they genuinely happy?
Seven
Steps to Inner Peace & Happiness
by
Vicky Thompson
Inner peace and happiness sound like ideal vacation spots that we never find time
to visit. But half of all Americans have searched for meaning and purpose in life,
Barna Research Group found. Discover these powerful states without leaving home by
following a seven-step path to greater well-being. |

Integrative Healing
Bring Spirit
into Cancer Treatment
by Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg
In a small, freshly-wallpapered
treatment room at a local hospital's oncology center, I sat quietly with my husband
and best friend while Ursula Gilkeson held a plastic bag of Kool-aid colored chemotherapy,
and closed her eyes. After she read and adjusted the light and color frequencies
of the chemotherapy to match the vibration of my energy field, she passed it to each
of the rest of us to bless before the nurse returned to start infusing the chemotherapy
into me. While the rest of the hospital was filled with illness and trauma, and people
waiting and rushing, in this small refuge of a room, something utterly calm and deeply
healing was happening.
The
60-Second Anxiety Solution
by
Hale Dwoskin
We live in anxious times. With
warnings about terrorism and other world crises, we can be left feeling completely
powerless and very afraid. Yet the heightened tension and uncertainty in the world
is only the most talked about part of the problem.
Embracing
Emotions
by
Maureen Higgins
All emotions are good. They
let us know when things are going well or when things are unhealthy for us. If we
ignore our emotional signals, they stay with us and cause us pain.
You Can
Experience the "I AM" Nature within You Now!
by
Master Stephen Co & Eric Robins
The Soul is a spark from the
universal flame, which some call God. God puts forth this portion of Himself, which
then incarnates, or takes a body, in the lower plane, the earth. As an extension
of God, our Soul is in a state of permanent health, a state of unchanging, prolonged
awareness and peace. We may not be consciously aware of it, but we inherently know
that this state of peace resides within us.
Healing
& the Power of Mind
by
Alden Hughes
I am a healer and minister
at the Miracles Healing Center in Wisconsin Dells. Last month, a woman visited our
center with an extremely painful hip condition related to a car accident that occurred
five years ago. She used crutches. During our conversation, she heard the idea that
all pain is guilt. From that simple expression, she had a memory resurface of something
she had completely forgotten. |

The Movie Mystic
| by Stephen
Simon
There has been one studio film,
however, that does stand out as a beacon this summer -- and it must be rated as the
heavy early favorite for the Academy's newest category: Best Animated Film -- and
that film is Finding Nemo.

Review: John McKone -- Times Two
Sound & Spirit
| by Don Strong
I recently met Minneapolis-based
composer and musical renaissance man John McKone one day when he came to my home
wearing his piano technician hat. His skill was evident as he quickly adjusted the
action and explained the inner workings of the new baby grand to me. We chatted,
and as he noticed the guitars in the room, he offered me a copy of his latest CD,
Times Two. John's suite of 12 pieces, with titles that all relate to time, is energetic,
technically crisp and tasty as a ripe, autumn apple. |
