The feminine energies of love and compassion are out-pictured in many life scenarios: a mother's devoted care for her infant, a friend's patient listening, a sister's warm embrace, a teacher's nurturing guidance, a leader's inclusive vision. These energies can be embodied, of course, by both women and men and are the touchstone for creating a harmonious world. Activating these attributes really means tapping the energies of the soul, for love and compassion are defined by and derived from the soul itself.

The soul is considered a feminine force by some spiritual faiths, because it embodies the God potential on Mother Earth. We can think of the soul as a glisteningly transparent sphere that is constantly evolving or devolving. The soul is located physically in the seat-of-the-soul chakra (right above the base chakra). To achieve immortality, our soul must be fused, or bonded, to our Higher Self, which is the masculine aspect of our being.

By recognizing and nurturing our soul aspects, we extend healing love and compassion to both ourselves and our planet.

Balance in the physical
Activating the energy of the soul begins with care-tending and balancing the physical body. Our souls are wounded by mental, emotional and physical toxins.

Sugar, for example, has a deleterious effect on many aspects of our health, including our physical and emotional well-being. Because the soul is housed in our bodies in the seat-of-the-soul chakra, it will also suffer as a result of any negative nutritional conditions in the body. This spiritual suffering, in turn, carries over into the mental health and the psychology of the individual's lifestream.

The soul is as healthy as you are healthy, the soul is as happy as you are happy, and the soul is as integrated as you are integrated. Her fortunes sit squarely on the base of your pyramid of life. This pyramid contains: your physical, mental and emotional bodies; the systems and organs within your body; and the corresponding seven major chakras.

The strength of the soul is dependent upon the health of the individual organs, their harmonious interaction and whether or not you choose to maintain a positive energy flow. The soul's karma and her past incarnations, as well as the balance of light or darkness in her chakras, are also factors that affect her physical health and determine in part where she is on the path of becoming an integrated being in God.

Honoring the soul
Rituals are another way to activate one's soul energies. Carving time out from the rush of daily life to honor the soul is an essential part of staying connected to her feminine, receptive nature. Esoterically speaking, the word SOUL comes from the word SOLAR. Every day our souls rise with the sun and set with the sun. The soul moves through the daily rhythms of life and as such is a creature of ritual. She mirrors the Son -- the Son of God that shines in her heart -- as well as the sun of our solar system.

Rituals such as sunrise prayers, keeping a meditation altar in your house, writing letters to God, doing yogic postures, focusing on a guru's photo and communing with elements of nature are all ways to become attuned with and show compassionate caring for one's soul.

Intuition as a guiding star
Yet another approach is to pay attention to that hallmark trait of the feminine...intuition. This aspect of our being is the voice of our soul. And our souls are wise! When meeting new people, we know that we have an affinity for some and are repelled by the energies of others. We instantaneously take a reading of a person's soul when we shake hands, and usually our first impressions are correct. More often than not, however, we allow ourselves to switch off the negative reading because we don't want to believe that that person may be less than well-intended.

Our soul's are most astute in seeing beyond the patina of posturing that others may set forth as a front. As the North Star on our compass, our intuition needs to be highly valued and respected.

Our souls know the past and its application to the present and the future. And they see the immediacy of the moment. The soul is highly sensitive, yet at the same time she is innocent and vulnerable to negative astral forces. She is impressionable and often colored by her surroundings. She suffers when subjected to violence of any kind. She is wounded by physical or verbal abuse.

Our souls urgently need our comfort and consolation, our soothing words. They need to know that we will protect them from harm. By trusting the intuition of our heart and soul, we know when not to get involved with people who are not beneficial to our soul's welfare.

Healing first
Activating the feminine energy of the soul means the soul must first learn how to work through the burdens of unresolved karma, which are reflected in the burdens of her unresolved psychology. Your soul is attentive when you bring it to the place where you can gain some insight into why you have repetitive negative patterns in your life that, try as you will, you cannot seem to correct.

According to Elizabeth Clare Prophet, founder of The Summit Lighthouse:

"One day you stop beating your head against the wall and you open your eyes and you SEE, you KNOW, because the mist that blocked your seeing and your knowing is cleared. And what was a mystery is no longer a mystery.

"So every morning we put on the mantle of the good physician (our Higher Self) and we go forth to heal our souls. Healing the soul is a top priority. If you do all things well on your spiritual path but neglect the healing of your soul, you will surely come to the crossroads of your neglect. And you will have no other choice but to pick up the cross of your karma and carry it to the place of Golgotha, the place where you have crucified your soul. Here you must take her down from the cross, anoint her body with myrrh and aloes, and call upon the Lord to resurrect her from her deep sorrow over your neglect."

People often think of karma in terms of entanglements with other souls. But when all is said and done, balancing and healing any karmic patterns with our own souls is the way to find resolution. It is our soul's wholeness that provides the key to our ultimate spiritual empowerment and victory.

Believing in Beauty
Activating the energies of love and compassion means holding a positive energy flow and a focus on beauty. The Apostle Paul offered some words for the tutoring of our souls in how to maintain such a mindset:

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which you have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of Peace shall be with you."

Beauty is considered both a feminine and a heavenly attribute. In the book Leaves of Morya's Garden, beauty is nothing short of the password that opens the gates to the heavenly octaves:

"Through Beauty will you approach, understand and remember. There is one thing alone – Beauty. Guard, expound and affirm this Beauty. Therein lies your way."

The soul mirrors whatever we put our attention on. So we must use the mirror of mind to reflect back upon the soul the values and virtues we want her to first internalize and then externalize. Seeking out beauty in our world and resolutely focusing on nothing less is another way to actualize the power and radiance of the feminine and the divine which intertwine in our souls.

Welcoming new souls
Extending love and compassion means not setting up pre-determined boundaries as to who warrants it and who doesn't. In fact, we may need to push beyond any such previously held boundaries to a more inclusive and welcoming perspective.

One example worth considering: What if every soul has a particular mission to accomplish here on earth? A unique skill set to offer and plan to fulfill? How is our world changed when souls are denied entrance at this epochal time? How is America as a country impacted by the loss of these particular talents?

In her new book Wanting to be Born, Dr. Neroli Duffy says "All of us are losing out because souls who are intended to be here have not made it into embodiment to offer their gifts and fulfill their reason for being." Drawing on her background as both a medical doctor and a minister, Duffy offers a missing perspective on the topic of life before birth. Holding an open mind about life before birth and how we welcome new souls into the world may be one way to extend the reach of our love and compassion.

A World, A Part
Everyone knows that the earth as a whole is now at a crucial turning point. As a people and as a planet we will either collectively accelerate or decelerate. Each and every soul plays a unique part in holding this balance. It is only by activating the feminine energies of love and compassion -- those of the soul -- that we can safeguard our world. It is only by considering how to embrace and embody these energies in our daily lives that we can ensure our future and welcome in a New Golden Age.
