Minnesota Retreats offer respite this Summer

Crow Wing Crest Lodge

Crow Wing Crest Lodge provides group retreat space and family fun in a natural environment of peace, relaxation and healing at their 18-cabin resort 2 1/2 hours north of the twin cities in the heart of Minnesota's "northwoods."

Catering to weekly family vacations during July and August, and weekend group get-a-ways and retreats in May, June and September, the owners also offer their holistic healing services of reflexology, aromatherapy, healing touch and bodywork in the land of spring-fed clear waters and woodland trails through towering pines and curious wildlife. The 100-year-old lodge with stone fireplace makes a great gathering place for scheduled summer activities like bingo, kids fishing contest and craft hour, games, potluck, etc. Reunion and retreat groups find it perfect for meetings, drumming circles, craft classes, and just "hanging out" on the sun deck serenaded by haunting loon calls and gently lapping waters.

Check out special rates for their Spring Relaxation Retreat in this issue of The EDGE. Their website at

Episcopal House of Prayer
The Episcopal House of Prayer is a ministry for all who hunger for a sacred place where they can turn away from harried lives, to find the deep well of God's Presence. Our mission is to facilitate the search for wisdom, to teach forms of contemplative prayer, to provide training in the inner work of the spiritual life, and to assist in the ongoing work of discerning God's voice, both within ourselves and in the world.

It is situated on five acres of wooded land provided by St. John's Abbey, a Roman Catholic Benedictine monastery in Collegeville, Minn., 76 miles northwest of the Twin Cities via I-94 (Exit 156 "St. John's University") and 90 minutes from the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport.

The House of Prayer and its Oratory are a blend of wood, glass and stone, designed to evoke an experience of solitude and awareness of God's presence. In the House, there are nine single and four double bedrooms, and a living room with vaulted ceiling and large stone fireplace offers a space for relaxation and meetings and comfortably seats 24 persons. It has a small library with a focus on spiritual life and meditation. The House and Oratory are surrounded by lawn, trees and shrubs. A meditation path winds in the woods behind the House and there are miles of walking trails in the nearby Abbey woods.

Coming events include:
• Parents and Teens Together, June 19-21, led by Ward J. Bauman, director of the House of Prayer

• A School of Contemplative Wisdom, July 20-26, led by Lynn C. Bauman, Cynthia Bourgeault and Ward J. Bauman

• KENOSIS: The Prayer of Self-emptying -- 8 day Practicing Jesus Intensive Meditation Retreat, August 9-16, led by Ward J. Bauman, Director of the House of Prayer
