What is God?
by Gary Hansberger
Can we as mere mortals even begin to explain what God is?
John Lennon said that God is a concept by which we measure our pain.
Is God associated with pain and do we only entreat God with prayer and meditation
when things are going wrong?
Is God dead?
Is God just a figment of our imagination that we use as a hope for some kind of meaning
out of chaos?
Is God a Baptist?
Does God look like Charlton Heston?
God is Goddess?
Well, in my humble opinion, God is all of that and none of that.
The fact is, God cannot be explained in mere human terminology. We don't have the
capacity to completely understand God. Immediately, most individuals attempt to categorize
the supreme whatever into a being and put gender on the definition. God or Goddess
depending on your point of view. It's comforting to apply human terms that we understand
to something that exists in concept and definition, but defies description. So, God
becomes a kindly bearded Charlton Heston in long flowing robes that sits on a throne
in the clouds and passes judgement on us poor suffering human beings who are just
doing the best we can. Or Goddess is the life giving mother creator of all things
who is nurturing and compassionate. Come on, people, the ultimate is far beyond the
concept of gender. I think it's time to stop pulling the eternal down to our level.
Instead, why don't we try to elevate ourselves higher to the ultimate level.
Let's start by trashing the concept of God or Goddess. God, as a word according to
Merriam-Webster, means supreme or ultimate reality. Reality, now there's a concept.
The lesser definitions get back to defining God as a being or object. Reality makes
more sense. Once you take the personalization out of God, the doors open wide and
you allow yourself to become more attuned to the spiritual energy that is God. Let's
redefine GOD as an acronym.
Generating Our Divine or Generate Our Divine, depending on what makes sense as we
use it in conversation. How about that?
From now on when we speak of G.O.D. we are talking about divine energy and our path
to Generating Our Divine.
O.K., so let's start by thinking of G.O.D. as something that has nothing to do with
some supreme being, male or female. Not the being in absolute control in long flowing
robes who sits in the clouds and creates acts of god that are usually catastrophic
or the great mother caring for her creations.
Now what?
G.O.D. is.
There is nothing dead about G.O.D.
The ultimate or supreme reality is everything.
It's the wind whispering through the trees, it's the blossom on a flower, it's the
sun in the sky, the thought in your head, it's everything, all the time, everywhere,
anyhow, anyway. It's energy, living energy that vibrates at different frequencies
or levels throughout the entire universe creating and animating anything that exists.
LIVING energy and it is within us as human beings. Or rather, we are a manifestation
of the living energy in this form. As such, WE are living energy and a part of the
ultimate reality whether we want to believe it or accept it or not. If we choose
to trivialize it into terms that organized religion adheres to, so be it. It still
doesn't change a thing. It just means you don't vibrate as high as you could. We
all have the choice to G.O.D.
The key to G.O.D. is faith/trust. You remember faith, don't you? That capacity to
believe in something that defies belief. Ah, yes, and faith/trust is limited by the
amount of doubt and skepticism that you allow yourself to contain. The world is polarity,
it's what makes it work. It's what makes the vibration generate into focus. Without
doubt and skepticism, we would never have faith and trust in the first place. Anyway,
it's the overcoming of the doubt and skepticism that generates strong faith and trust
and with enough faith and trust we G.O.D. at higher frequencies until.....
Well, Christ walked on water...........
Faith the size of a mustard seed can move a mountain.
Do you think Christ was G.O.D.?
I say Generating Our Divine, because the ultimate reality belongs to everyone and
everyone can tap into it and become more divine in this lifetime. It is the great
collective consciousness and stream of awareness.
We are moving constantly into a new age of exciting possibilities where we can transform
our beings into creatures of light and energy. An age of peace and beauty where we
all come to the realization that we are all a part of divine energy. War and wickedness
and darkness will have no place in the new world of light and love. It just makes
no sense to hurt or kill what is divine to begin with.
Listening to the still small voice makes so much sense. The answer to our being is
within all of us. We can block it out, refuse to believe, live the physical life
to the max, surround ourselves in fabulous distractions and entertain ourselves to
death and never listen to the vibration within that can lead us to the ultimate reality.
It's your choice.
