| 9-11: An Afterthought
by Matt Karayan
We are here because we have distortions to work through. Our distortions justify acts of ignorance. Fear is one of those distortions that justifies acts of ignorance, while acts of ignorance justify reactions out of fear.
The Twin Towers and Pentagon event of September 11 did not incite fear in us. It brought the fear that was already there to the surface. It is time we talk about the fear we have buried under the busy days of our lives. This is motion forward, not backwards. To work through what we work so hard to avoid involves recognition before acceptance. Then can we step to higher ground.
Our assumptions about safety and where it can be found is challenged by the fact that our lives cannot be insured from fear and its effects. The drop of a pebble in a calm lake has ripple effects far beyond the pebble's dropping. It is a chain reaction involving a picture larger than any of us can see. But, then again, we don't need to see it; we just need to ask for the guidance that will help us do our part in the picture. Our part is to stimulate speed-up on a local scale. Collectively, it has global effects.
In the final analysis, we face the fact that fear comes from within. Now must we shift from an outside view of "life happens to me" to a reflective view that asks, "How do I deal with my own fear?" A Spiritual step is asked for.
