Quarry Arts celebrates diverse healing systems in Madison
by Christine Krakora-Eppers

"A place for peace, healing, and restoration": that is the meaning of Madison's former tribal name, Tay Co Pra. A vision was set over a year ago by Architectural Building Arts to design and construct a sacred building for healing work in Madison, holding the original intention and meaning of the land we now call Madison. This place is now called the Quarry Arts Building, and is located on 715 Hill St., just off University Avenue.

Quarry Arts opened its doors in November with a special blessing on the night of the full moon to honor the land, building, people and energetic forces involved in creating this building. There were rituals, ceremonies and clearings done on the land and for the building throughout the construction process. An energetic foundation paralleled the physical one, as feng shui principles accompanied the blueprints for the building. This is evident as one walks through the building and feels a slight curve through the hallways and sees that several rooms have rounded corners or walls. There are altars and fountains being prepared for the entrances and hallways to add to the welcoming energy of the building.

There are some special features to the building that make it appealing to both practitioners and clients. There is a rooftop exercise area, so classes can be moved outside with good weather. There is a day spa facility that includes a whirlpool, sauna and an outdoor body working cabana. There are also two classrooms on the first floor of the building, a large movement room and a smaller meeting room, where ongoing classes are offered in yoga, tai chi, meditation, and other workshops.

Since November, the tenants have been moving into the building and creating their own sacred spaces within the building. There are more than 20 Holistic Health Practitioners who now reside within the 15 suites at Quarry Arts. There is a blend of Eastern and Western training within the building, as you will find a Chinese medical doctor and acupuncturist, a chiropractor, a classical homeopath, psychologists, social workers, massage therapists, and several different energy practitioners.

The variety of individual services offered by these practitioners include: psychotherapy, counseling, massage therapy, chiropractic, acupuncture, herbal medicine, homeopathy, craniosacral therapy, Reiki, intuitive healing, EMF Balancing Technique&Mac226;, hypnotherapy, Natural Allergy Elimination, shamanic healing, sound therapy, movement therapy, mindfulness meditation, and guided imagery. A directory of practitioners and a schedule of classes within the building can be found at www.quarryarts.com.

All of the practitioners in the suites of the building have separate identities and business names, although the vision for Quarry Arts includes the formation of a community network within the building and establishing an identity within the Madison community as a referral source for a variety of healing services.

The Grand Opening Celebration for the Quarry Arts Building will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26. Meet the various practitioners and have a tour of the building. Underground parking and street parking is available. For more information about available space in the building, contact Steve Larson with Architectural Building Arts at larson@abanet.com.
