Dear Louise
by Louise Hay

Dear Louise,
I hope you can give me some advice concerning psoriasis. I've had this for nearly 16 years and have tried every cream, ointment, shampoo and vitamin supplement -- all with limited results. I eat extremely well, with plenty of vegetables, fruit and water in my diet. Eating so well only enhances my frustration that I can't seem to beat this condition.

In desperation, last year I went on a drug called Methotrexate to relieve the lesions on my skin. While I was on this medication, virtually all of the lesions disappeared. However, I didn't want to be on such a powerful drug for too long, and have now stopped taking it. There must be an underlying emotional, environmental issue linked to this.

Do you think that any techniques such as rebirthing or hypnosis might help? Do you have any affirmations that I can perform to combat this?

Your advice would be greatly appreciated. -- D.M., Australia

Dear D.M.,
I've learned that psoriasis is one of the common symptoms of the candida yeast syndrome, which is so prevalent. Starches, all forms of sugar, and even fruit, are what candida albicans feeds on. Hay House has just published a new book called The Body "Knows," by medical intuitive Caroline M. Sutherland, that addresses this topic, among many others. I'm very proud of this work, as I know that it will help people truly improve their health.

On the metaphysical level, anything to do with skin is connected with our individuality. Do you feel threatened by a person or a situation, which leads you to reach for sugar? Do you feel safe? Whom do you need to forgive? Affirm: "I surround myself with a deep feeling of safety. I know that all is well in my world."

Dear Louise,
I'm 40 years old and have been writing and producing my own performances while working full-time as a secretary for the last 18 years. I love the artistic life, but I feel so unhappy being a secretary. I can't seem to attract what it takes to earn a modest living as a writer/choreographer/composer.

I've tried teaching and have thought about doing so at the college level, but I can't get certified or finish my master's due to a large student loan debt that keeps my college transcripts from being released.

I continue to affirm: "I now make a good living doing what I love," and it's true that I am making a good living as a secretary, which enables me to do what I love, but it doesn't free me from debt. So I await yet another affirmation from you so that I may feel peaceful with my life's work. -- J.S., Chicago, Illinois

Dear J.S.,
Affirmations are the way to go. Here are some that can help: "I bless all of my bills with love. I pay something each month to reduce whatever I owe. I release any need for continuing debt. I allow miracles to happen. I am well paid for my theatrical work. My income is constantly increasing. I prosper wherever I turn. I am peaceful with my life and creative work."

Dear Louise,
I am a 49-year-old woman who has experienced a lot of "loss" throughout my life, such as my mom and dad abandoning me when I was 4, losing sight in my left eye, facing cancer in my 30s, and my husband leaving me a few years ago, cheating me out of all my financial savings. I even lost my glasses a month ago.

I'm taking herbs to build my blood, I use your affirmations, and I read positive material. Is my Higher Self disappointed in me? What possible need could I have for continually losing things?

This week my sister underwent a bone marrow transplant, and my elderly father is very ill. More loss to come? I seem to have a lifelong belief in loss. But what can I do to heal this suffering? -- M.S., Boise, Idaho

Dear M.S.,
Your Higher Self loves you deeply; it cannot be disappointed in you. Loss is something that comes to everyone; it's a normal natural part of life. Remember, you're always doing the best you can at any time with the understanding, knowledge and awareness that you have. This is why we always want to ask for more understanding. For when we understand more of Life and how it works, then we're not so buffeted about by circumstances.

Your key phrase is that you "have a lifelong belief in loss." This probably began when you were 4. Please forgive your parents -- for your sake, not theirs. You need help unraveling the resentment and bitterness deep in your consciousness that keeps you from seeing straight. And you're blessed to have a Religious Science Church in Boise, on Curtis Road. Do go and work with one of their practitioners. It can be a lifesaver for you. Affirm: "My healing is at hand, and I accept it now."
