OUR SOULS | OUR FEATURED TOPIC
Your unconscious mind is the doorway to your soul
by Scott Lofquist
Long before I started my current path, I was puzzled when I heard
a speaker ask, "Who are you?" Immediately I began to think
about my work, family and social life. But before I could really give
an answer, his second question made me stop and think, "Is that
all you are?" Dumbfounded, the third question made me draw a
complete blank. "Aren't you even more than that?" If you
were to describe who you are without talking about role descriptors
such as your work, hobbies, family, religion, spirituality,
sexual preference, age, addictions, or health what would you say?
One of the presuppositions of NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) states that people are not their behaviors. So if you are not what you do, who are you? Before you answer that question let's explore where to look for the answer.
In the process of discovering who you really are, you begin to experience emotional states such as being, inner peace, love and oneness. So how do you reconnect to these soul states of consciousness, the states that represent who you truly are? The first step is to understand the nature of your unconscious mind.
The ancient Hawaiians believed the conscious mind does not directly communicate with the High Self. The path to the High Self is only through the unconscious mind. If your desire is to reconnect to your soul, you must clear the path in your unconscious mind. The path can be blocked by unresolved negative emotions, limiting decisions and conflicting values.
Without clearing these blocks, your connection to High Self and your desire to reconnect with your soul will be limited. When you begin to understand and value your unconscious mind, you will experience how it is the pathway to your soul's reconnection. Instead of allowing anger, fear and approval to run your life, when you establish rapport with your unconscious mind, you will experience the world through the eyes of your authentic self.
All learning and behavior happens outside your conscious awareness. Even though you may easily recall your phone number, you were probably not consciously aware of the number before you were asked. So where was the number stored?
In addition to learning and behavior, your unconscious mind has several other critical responsibilities. One of these responsibilities is to repress memories with unresolved negative emotions, and to present them to your conscious mind when you are ready to handle them. These repressed memories are like weeds choking out your true nature in the unconscious.
All change takes place in your unconscious. Have you ever made a conscious decision to change a behavior or habit, only to find yourself doing it again? This is because the conscious mind does not run your behavior, your unconscious does.
The first step in changing behavior is learning to access the part of you that runs your behavior. Because the unconscious mind holds the keys to who you truly are and is the only place you can create long-term change, doesn't it make sense that reconnection to your soul begins here?
By working with your unconscious mind, your personal happiness and professional success will be far more consistent. Your effectiveness in working with others and your personal power will dramatically increase. You will easily generate resourceful emotional states, eliminate negative emotions, and change limiting decisions. Take the first step and begin the process now of really getting to know your unconscious mind. When you clear the path, and open the doorway, you will reconnect with your soul and who your really are.
