Internationally Renowned Spiritual Leader and Author
Speaking at Eckankar’s Worldwide Seminar

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Thousands of people from around the world will see spiritual leader and author Harold Klemp speak at Eckankar's Worldwide Seminar at 7 p.m Saturday, October 13, at the Minneapolis Convention Center, 1301 Second Ave. S., downtown Minneapolis. This seminar takes place October 12-14.

Newcomers (anyone who is not a member of Eckankar) are invited to be Eckankar's guest to see Klemp speak and to attend the seminar for one full day. More than 5,000 visitors are expected to gather in Hall 3 for this exclusive engagement. Programs for newcomers introduce them to Eckankar and give an overview of the seminar.

In Harold Klemp's newest book release, How to Survive Spiritually in Our Times, he weaves stories, tips and techniques to show how to embrace change and not merely survive, but thrive in a changing world.

Speaking to a crowd of more than 4,300 people in Minneapolis, he said, "The battle for survival is adventuresome and not a game for weaklings. To succeed one has to throw in all he or she has. Wit, skill, a daring spirit and a heart full of love." This talk appears in the first chapter of his new book.

In the preface, Klemp says warmly, "With all goodwill, I welcome you to my world and that of all the people whose chronicles are at the heart of these spiritual stories. Truth is a living thing. Is it a wonder, then, that it should reveal itself in the lives of average people too?

"Now begin your journey into a fresh, exciting world of spiritual revelation."

Harold Klemp's new book is available at your favorite local or online bookstore. For more information on the seminar, Harold Klemp and Eckankar, call 1 (888) LOVE GOD, ext. N16. Or visit Eckankar's website at www.eckankar.org.

In 1981, American-born Harold Klemp became the spiritual leader of Eckankar, Religion of the Light and Sound of God. Known as a pioneer of today's focus on "everyday spirituality," he has traveled the world -- from North America and Europe to Africa, Australia and the Pacific Rim -- to share the timeless truth of Eckankar. They help people recognize the power of their own intimate experiences with God. He writes extensively, adding new titles to his more than thirty published works to date.

Men's Health Symposium takes holistic view

MINNEAPOLIS -- Men's health is a critical social issue; on average, men have a life expectancy seven to nine years shorter than women. What are the factors and remedies? The Twin Cities Men's Center is tackling the problem head-on at its Men's Health and Well-Being Symposium, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Minneapolis Community and Technical College, 1501 Hennepin Ave.

"The symposium takes a holistic approach to men's health, looking at how mind, body, heart and spirit need to work together to create maximum well-being," said Andy Mickel, a conference organizer. "We're viewing health not just individually, but in the context of relationships and ties to the community.

"Men have a lot of wisdom, experience and support they can offer one another in creating healthier lives -- that's one of the exciting things about this event, bringing the energy together in one place," he said. Most sessions are open to both men and women.

The symposium, to be held in observance of the 25th anniversary of The Men's Center, will feature nationally and locally known health care professionals, and include experiential as well as more traditional learning, covering the gamut from Western to Eastern to indigenous medicine.

Some sessions will focus on practical topics like junkfood busting and supernutrition, taking control of pain, and maximizing energy while minimizing stress. Others will explore spirituality and men's well-being, meditating for spiritual health, from shame and control to healthy masculinity, homeopathy and spirituality, and the search for the grail -- the human quest for meaning.

The male mid-life passage will be featured in several sessions, including a mini-keynote kick-off by author and psychotherapist, Jed Diamond, who will speak on "andropause," the male equivalent of menopause. Other workshops include "Living and Loving in the Prime of Life" and "Male Mid-life Crisis: A Compassionate Approach."

Maintaining sexual health through awareness of disease and continued sexual vitality through herbs and supplements will be the focus of two other workshops, and a recipe for keeping love alive will be presented in a third. Other sessions will cover how to cope with depression, including the use of alternative therapies.

Author Rebecca Janke will present a workshop based on her book, The Compassionate Rebel Response: Energized by Anger, Motivated by Love, and Dr. Jon Pryor MD, author of It's in the Male, will lead a presentation about male "plumbing" issues, from testicular health and prostate disease to vasectomy and sexual health.

In all, 24 sessions will be presented by experts in various fields. The cost of the symposium is $60 and includes a complimentary Men's Center membership.

The Men's Center, located at 3249 Hennepin Ave. S., Suite 55, is a volunteer-based, nonprofit organization serving as a clearinghouse of resources for men, offering support groups, classes, referral and other services to foster their emotional, intellectual and spiritual growth -- and from that foundation to advocate for stronger families and communities.

The Sage Scholars' seminar opens with an introduction to Bonhoeffer's life from Pastor John Matthews of Afton who is currently vice president of the International Bonhoeffer Society, English Language Section.

Subsequent sessions feature a documentary film produced by Bain Boelke, artistic director of The Jungle Theater; a presentation by author Jane Pejsa; the gripping story of holocaust survivor and author, Henry Oertelt; and a closing discussion led by Pastor Matthews about the conditions that led to the holocaust and how humanity can seek to avoid another tragedy in the future.

The series is $75 and runs five consecutive Mondays, 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer's life and writings have inspired books, a documentary film and an international society. Born in Germany, he was a young pastor who recognized the dangerous implications of Nazism. He was a leader in the Confessing Church, a group of pastors who actively opposed the "nazification" of the German Lutheran Church, and also was active in the German resistance movement.

The conference will be held at the Thunderbird Hotel and Convention Center, in Bloomington, near the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport.

WE International is based in the Twin Cities. It was founded several years ago to provide information and networking support for Walk-ins and for others experiencing major shifts in consciousness. Agape Benefit
MINNEAPOLIS -- An evening of inspiring and uplifting music -- Heaven on Earth NOW -- will benefit the Agape Spiritual Center & Sanctuary at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at University Baptist Church, 1219 University (corner of 13th & University), in Minneapolis.

An array of local artists and performers, including singer/songwriter Barbara McAfee, violonist Michelle Dunkirk, the Irish Booley Band and a drum jam, will come together to support Agape Sanctuary's vision of healing our world by uniting in the spirit of love and peace. Part of the proceeds will help support impoverished Mayan villages in the Guatemalan Highlands.

"Now is a critical turning point in our human evolution to choose to live in love and Spirit instead of fear and ego," says Agape's spiritual director, Lisa Venable. "It is a time to wake up to a New World -- a world where Agape (unconditional love) unites all beings as we create Heaven on Earth.

"Coming together as spiritual people committed to this kind of life is what the Agape Spiritual Center & Sanctuary is about," she says. "The time is now. If not now, when? We invite everyone to join us in creating this vision in ourselves so we can spread the Light to other Beings. Proceeds will help Agape fund ongoing education for adults, children and youth to help shift consciousness and choose love, as well as create a network of lightworkers dedicated to spreading love and peace."

In an effort to help unite the world, Agape has chosen to use proceeds from the benefit to help the people who live on the shores of Lake Attitlan in Guatemalan villages that are some of the poorest and most undeveloped in the region. Inhabited by Indigenous Mayan, these gentle people most often wear a smile on their face, although their lives are very difficult and threatened by many dangers, including disease, poverty and lack of education.

Information on tickets can be obtained through www.agapesanctuary.com and are on self-determined basis of $15, $25 and $50. Bring school supplies for one Mayan child. Contributions are tax deductible. For more information, call (612) 871-9220.

The first section of the book, "The Map," describes how the illusions of time, space and consciousness have limited our understanding of our relationship to the Divine and how we can move beyond these illusions. The second section, "Practicing the Path," presents a series of practices designed to help us find a true and deep connection to the Divine within ourselves. The third section, "Embodiment and Integration," teaches the reader how to make this awareness and connection part of daily life, not just something that exists during prayer or meditation. The book concludes with a discussion about how we can take these ideas into our communities, and so begin to change the world.
