 "Egyptian Enigma" by Adrew Annenberg Copyright © Andrew Annenbert On the web at andrewa.com About the Artist: Andrew Annenberg is recognized as one of todays foremost visionary artists, acclaimed for his meticulous detail, imagination and wit. His works-original oils and limited editions-have been collected and published throughout the world. Born in Santa Monica, Calif., in 1945, Andrew spent his youth in Washington, D.C., where he frequently visited the nations prime repositories of art treasure: the Smithsonian Institute, the National Museum of Art and the Natural Museum of History. Stirred by these masterpieces and encouraged by his mother, he began to draw. Andrew recalls his early years. "I was always drawing or painting. Everything else was something I had to do so I could return to my art." Since 1974, Andrew has resided on the idyllic Hawaiian island of Maui, where his sense of wonder and awe flourish. Themes from ancient Egypt, classical Greece and England and the lost civilizations of Atlantis and Lemuria are powerful focal points in much of his work. A journey to Egypt in 1993 inspired a major work of art, "Egyptian Enigma," featured on the cover of Edge Life Directory. Several paintings, including "Egyptian Enigma" were included in a Time Travel Tunnel sequence in the 3D Imax Film, "T-Rex." Andrew turns our minds within to the fantastic realms where consciousness is unconfined, and brings us to a meditation on that which lies beyond. He is interested in what he calls the "environment of the mind." He believes that his provocative paintings move people to ponder their surroundings by making the viewer aware of the viewer's own participation in the rise and fall of civilizations. The primal, the Archetypal, the Mythological, the Ancient -- it is their timelessness and the enduring nature of the spirit that Andrew captures with his art. The artist on "Egyptian Enigma": "When we reflect on the world around us, it doesn't take long to realize that our sense of reality has been clearly defined by societal perceptions of what is 'acceptable.' Needless to say, from the moment we are born these sanctions shape how and what we see, and in many ways what we believe to be true about everything we are experiencing in the world."
